So about 2-3 years ago, my next door neighbors sold their house, and the new guy who bought it started renting rooms out immediately. One of the tenants was a tier 3 sex offender, and we were notified via flyers from the city. We haven’t seen him in over a year, and the neighbor said he wasn’t living there anymore. But now that our house is on the market, every potential buyer asks about the sex offender. One lady even said she loved the house but backed out because of it. Why is he still showing up as a resident? How can we fix this? We really need to sell our home… any advice?
That sounds super frustrating. I’d check with local authorities about getting his status updated. Have you tried that?

Not yet, but that’s a good idea. I’ll look into it. Thanks!
Wow, I can’t believe it’s affecting your sale. Maybe mention in your listing that he’s not living there anymore?

That’s a good thought! I’ll definitely bring it up with my realtor.
Sounds like a tough spot. Have you thought about talking to your neighbors? They might back you up.

Yeah, I’ve talked to a few. They’re supportive, but it’s hard to change what’s out there.
I had a similar issue when selling. Just be upfront with buyers about the situation. It helps.

That’s true. I think being honest might ease some worries.
Ugh, that’s rough. But if he’s not living there, maybe you can get a letter from the police or something?

That could work! I’ll see if I can get any documentation.
