We sold our home 3 weeks ago and the buyer has recently contacted us about a non-working window treatment (blinds on one window). They would like us to pay for a replacement claiming that the blind can’t be fixed.
We told our agent we would not do so because it’s cosmetic and was like that the entire time the house was for sale and during the inspection. It’s not our problem that they (and their inspector) didn’t notice it.
Is this an odd request? Is it common for buyers to request things after the sale of a house? Should I be worried about a lawsuit (seems ridiculous over a blind)?

Not your worry anymore. It’s their house now, and they signed off on it.

This. If it was something that needed to be taken care of, it needed to be noted in the final walkthrough as a condition.

That’s what we thought too. They had a small request at the final walk-through, and we fixed it up quickly, so they closed without any problems. This new “issue” after closing is just crazy.

Honestly, if the house is nice, you could jokingly send them some cheap Home Depot white blinds that don’t even fit.

This reminds me of when I bought my first house, and the seller took half the light bulbs with them at closing. They weren’t even nice LED bulbs—just those cheap, harsh white compact fluorescents. I can’t be sure they were all there during the inspection since I didn’t check behind every shade, but I noticed a couple were definitely missing.
It was pretty petty, and I’m still annoyed about it 15 years later, but it didn’t really cause any major problems. Our realtor mentioned it to their realtor, and he ended up dropping off a pack of light bulbs. Still a bit of a head-scratcher!

Geez. Clearly first time buyers. I’d tell my realtors no and that you don’t want to be contacted further as they sound like they could easily become a pain in the ass with every little thing that pops up with actually owning a home in real life vs HGTV. Any lawyer or judge would laugh them out of the court room.

For my case, We didn’t ask for any discounts for a sink that was leaking and a faucet that had low water pressure. All it needed was some basic maintenance with a wrench and LCR. The house is old and has ugly colored carpet that we’ve had for the past 5 years. It mostly just needs some superficial changes that we’re okay with living with. My sister actually likes our house, but she thinks my brother-in-law would refuse to move in. He had specific requirements for a move-in ready house, and their last choice had them living beyond their means.

I bought my townhome earlier this year. Blinds in the kitchen window. After I moved in, obviously post-inspection and post-closing, I discovered that the wand was missing on the blinds (so no way to tilt them open and closed). I bought new blinds. It wouldn’t have crossed my mind to try to go back to my seller for that. What a ridiculous request.
