Co-owner drama... What can I do with the house?

I bought a home with my ex in 2018, and we’re both on the deed and mortgage. We broke up last year and now we’re stuck figuring out what to do with the house. I want to sell, but he wants to rent it out and won’t pay half the mortgage. What are my options?

Sounds like you may need an attorney to help sort this out. It’s a messy situation for sure.

Yeah, I think I might have to go that route. Just trying to avoid drama.

If you two can’t agree, the bank could end up foreclosing on the house. That would screw both of you over!

That’s what I’m worried about. I don’t want to lose everything.

You could file for a partition sale in court, which forces the sale of the property. It can be costly, though.

I’ve heard about that. I just want to avoid legal battles if possible.

You might consider paying the mortgage with rental income and splitting any profits, but that could get complicated.

That could work if he’s on board, but I doubt he’d agree to that.

Be careful with the foreclosure route. It’ll hurt both your credits, and that’s a long-term consequence.

Totally agree. I need to find a solution that doesn’t end in disaster.
