Did our realtor lie to us?

Hey! I just closed on my house a couple of months ago. During the process, we discussed with our realtor about having to break our apartment lease and how it would cost us. She mentioned that she would help with paying for it. When it came time for closing, we brought it up again, and she told us to send her our Venmo information. We did, but we never heard anything back. I sent her another message, and she responded saying she forgot and had ‘lost’ all her contacts, but promised to send it once she closed on a house soon. A few weeks passed, and still nothing, so I sent another message asking for an update. Now she claims it is against the NAR and that it has to go through title. I have a strong feeling we are not going to see the money. While it isn’t make or break for us, it is just very annoying. Yes, I realize it is our fault for not putting it in writing. I definitely feel very dumb.

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s frustrating when expectations don’t match reality. Have you thought about reaching out to the NAR for clarification on their policies?

You should definitely document everything. If it were me, I would consider seeking legal advice to understand your options.

It’s unfortunate, but this is a common issue in real estate. Always best to have things in writing. Good luck!

It’s really frustrating how some realtors operate. You might want to leave a review to warn others.
