I don’t get the appeal of unattached garages. Do they have some benefit I’m not aware of? Are these more popular in certain areas? In bad weather, I’d prefer to park my car inside the garage and enter the house directly without having to get rained/snowed on. Thoughts?

For parking a car, attached. For using it as a shop, be it for woodworking or something, or for that project car that maybe you’ll get running this summer, probably detached.

More often than not, detached garages with homes on acreage usually are used as hobby or work sheds. I see a lot of woodworking and metalurgy applications in my market. Detached garages without acerage are usually cost saving measures from the 50s-80s builders in my market.

For me i prefer detached garage reduces insurance because of the fuel storage.
