Existing vs. New Build

Comparing an existing, well-characterised 90s home with a 1-acre unengineered land. I realize there are a lot of factors to take into account, but I’m curious about people’s experiences with purchasing something that is, say, 30–40 years old versus building something new (I’m thinking about buying a kit home with the intention of expanding over time). I’m getting off topic here.

Hey sis, check this listing, * Family Size and Preferences: Consider how many people are in your family and what your needs and preferences are for location, amenities, and space.

  • Timeframe: Decide how soon you need to move.
  • Patience: Be prepared for the time and flexibility required to build a new home.
  • Maintenance: Evaluate how comfortable you are with handling potential repairs and upkeep.

Oh, I hear ya… I once wrestled with the same choice. Old homes have charm, but can be full of surprises. New builds, like those kit homes, let you start fresh and add your own touch over time. It’s like the difference between vintage jeans with a few patches and a brand-new pair you can customize as you go. It all boils down to what vibe you’re after and how hands-on you want to be.

A 90s home offers stability; building new allows customization. Weigh costs, time, and future plans.

Thanks for the reminder! Those are all really important points to consider when looking at a new listing. It’s definitely important to think about family size and preferences, especially when it comes to location and amenities. I’ll keep these tips in mind as I go through the options. Appreciate the advice!
