Hate what I bought... anyone else feel this way?

So I moved to a new city for a job and ended up buying a house remotely after being outbid a bunch of times. During the first and final walkthrough, I should’ve seen the red flags, but I was already halfway across the country. Now I have this older house that needs way more care than I can provide right now. It’s livable, but the utilities are super high, plus there’s maintenance everywhere. I just know someone will love this place, but it’s not me. On top of that, I could afford it because my roommate moved away, and now I’m at my limit with them. I’m worried I won’t be able to find another tenant to cover their portion, so getting a new roommate isn’t a solid solution. I’m thinking about selling, but I want to wait until spring to hit the market. I really want to move to a small apartment since I don’t have much furniture and my needs are pretty minimal. I have two cats, a washer and dryer, and I need some kind of covered parking because of the heavy snow here. Maybe I’ll just rent for a bit. The house is worth about $30-40k more than I owe, so that’s something. Am I insane for feeling this way? This whole situation is messing with my mental health, and I’m tired of dipping into my limited savings every month just to stay afloat. Please, no judgment on how I bought it; I’m already kicking myself enough.

I totally get it. Buying a house can be super stressful, especially in a new area. Have you thought about what your next steps might be?

Yeah, moving can be tough. I moved for a job too and ended up in a similar situation. It took me a while to adjust.

@Afton
What do you mean by ‘adjust’? Was it hard to find a new place?

Well, I had to get used to the area and find a good spot to rent. Plus, navigating the rental market is a whole other thing.

It sounds like you’re really overwhelmed. I’ve heard that renting can be a good way to relieve some stress. Have you looked at any apartments yet?

Not yet, but I’m definitely considering it. I just need something small and manageable, especially with my two cats.

Don’t feel bad about your situation. A lot of people go through this when moving to a new place. If you can sell for a profit, that’s a win!

Yeah, totally! Selling might give you the fresh start you need. Plus, the market could be better in spring.

You’re definitely not insane. It’s super tough and it’s okay to prioritize your mental health. Renting might just be the right move.

Thanks for saying that! I feel like I need to put myself first for a change.

I think waiting until spring to sell is smart. The market could be more favorable then, and you’ll feel more prepared. Just take care of yourself in the meantime.

I appreciate that! Just trying to figure it all out without losing my mind. LOL.
