My boyfriend and I officially closed on our first house a little more than a month ago! It’s been an exciting and hectic time, but we’re running into an issue with our utilities that’s starting to worry me.
When we closed, we were told that we should set up utilities once we received our first bill. We need an invoice from the bill to set everything up. We’ve waited… and waited… and called the city… and waited some more. All other mail has been received just fine, but we haven’t seen a single utility bill.
I’m getting worried this might come back to bite us with late fees or even termination of utilities. My boyfriend seems to think we should just let it ride and see what happens, but I’m not so sure that’s the best approach.
We had no direct contact with the previous owner, as they worked exclusively through their agent. We don’t even know who services all the utilities for our house.
Has anyone else gone through this? What should we do to avoid any potential issues? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Thanks in advance…
