How long should my house be listed before accepting final offers?

My house is going up on the market this Friday, and my agent wants offers due by Wednesday. This seems really short to me. He says shorter timeframes create urgency, but I feel like a week and a half, covering two weekends, would give more people a chance to see the house. Is 5 days normal?

Do you like and trust your agent? Let them do their job. If your house is that hot, 5 days should be sufficient. If the agent has overplayed their hand, it’ll be clear quickly.

This only works in a very hot market or if your house is significantly underpriced.

Listen to your agent. They know the market conditions.

You could get a really good offer on day one that expires the next day.

Yeah, we usually give about 36 hours to accept an offer. I’m curious what makes you/your agent think you’ll get offers in that timeframe.

If you were buying, how long would you be willing to wait to hear back from a seller who thinks they can set their own timeline?

If it’s competitive, this is actually a longer timeframe. Usually, it’s something like Monday at 5 PM.

You should list Tuesday or Wednesday for showings Saturday/Sunday, maybe Friday evening, and have offers due Monday at noon or 3 PM if you’re in a competitive market.
