How to lookup who owns a property?

Hi everyone, I recently started working for a man who makes his income by buying and flipping houses. He assured me that he would give me a commission for each home I helped him find and ultimately purchase. The only issue is that the deed is usually at least ten years old when I find an abandoned house that appears to be uninhabited. Every time, I end myself running into problems tracing the real owner of the property. Is there anyone who could help me locate these persons more easily? Any guidance is beneficial. Thanks!

Hmm, that can be tricky. There are ways to find property owners, but it’s good to be careful, especially with abandoned houses. Here are a couple of safe routes:

  • County Assessor’s Office: Most counties have an online property tax record search. You can usually find the owner’s name and address there.
  • Local Public Library: Librarians can be great resources! They might have access to historical property records that can help you track down the owner.

And hey, if the owner is really hard to find, maybe there’s a reason. It might be best to avoid the property altogether.

Hey there! Tracing abandoned house owners can be tough, All you have to do is get in touch with Speak with your local government; they may be aware of properties that have been abandoned.

If you have some cash available you could just hire an abstractor to tell you, but it’s not that hard to find on your own at the clerk of court’s office.
