I have a flexible job right now, but I’m looking for another flexible job to make some extra yearly income. I’ve met a couple of people—one at my current work who went into real estate and another who did it part-time with a demanding full-time job. I don’t think it’s an easy way to make cash or anything, but I genuinely think it might be a good fit for me. It seems unpredictable, but since I’m looking for supplemental income, that wouldn’t be a huge issue. Honestly, it sounds kind of interesting for my psyche too—keeping me on my toes. What’s the cost for schooling and licensing?
Part-time agent here. Costs can vary depending on the state, but you’re looking at $1-2k for classes and licensing. The schedule is flexible, but the income can be unpredictable. You need to hustle to find clients, but it can be rewarding if you enjoy sales and helping people. Just know it’s not ‘easy money.’
@Fraser
Thanks for the insight! I’m okay with the hustle part if it’s something I enjoy. I’m not expecting easy cash—just hoping for something that fits my current situation. Sounds like it could be a good challenge.
My boyfriend was a part-time agent, but he gave it up. He only managed four sales in two years. I think he mentioned it cost around $1,000 to get his license about four years ago.

That’s good to know—sounds like it can be hit or miss depending on how much time you can invest. I’ll keep that in mind when I decide whether to go for it.
I’ve thought about doing this myself, but the unpredictable income is what makes me hesitate. It seems like it could be a fun side gig though, especially if you like meeting new people and enjoy the sales aspect of it.
@Micah
Yeah, that’s one thing I’m trying to figure out. I don’t mind the unpredictability since it’s just for extra income, but it’s something to consider for sure. I do enjoy meeting new people, so maybe that’s a plus for me!
I think the key is having realistic expectations. It’s not a get-rich-quick thing, and you’ll need to be consistent with networking and staying active. If you’re okay with that, then it can definitely work as a side hustle.
@Tory
Absolutely, I’m definitely not expecting it to be easy money. I think the challenge of keeping up with networking and clients sounds interesting though. Thanks for the advice!
Just a heads-up, real estate can take a lot of time and effort, especially when you’re first starting out. If you’re doing it part-time, it might take longer to get your first few sales. But if you’re passionate about it, go for it!
@Dez
Thanks for the heads-up! I’m okay with putting in the effort, even if it takes a while to get going. I’ll just need to make sure I can balance it with my current job.
