Is it normal for legal fees to take this long to get refunded?

Hey everyone, I just bought my first flat, which is an off-plan project. I’m under 25, so my dad helped me negotiate. He managed to get the legal fees and furniture costs waived at the end of July. I paid the down payment at the start of August and was told to pay the legal fees directly to the construction company’s lawyer. After paying, the broker said I’d be refunded the legal fees, but it’s been over 2 months and I still haven’t seen a cent! I’ve asked the broker several times, and he keeps saying it’ll be sorted in a few days, but nothing happens. Is this normal?

That sounds really frustrating! In the UK, it shouldn’t take this long to get refunded. Have you checked if there’s a formal complaints process?

Is it common for brokers to delay refunds? I thought it was supposed to be straightforward.

I had a similar issue when buying my place. I had to escalate it to the management to finally get my refund. Might be worth trying!

Maybe check the contract? There might be specific timelines mentioned for refunds.

It’s definitely not normal. I would keep pushing for answers, and consider contacting a legal advisor if it drags on.
