I need some advice. We’re closing on a house, but our closing date got pushed back a week due to the holidays. We need to be out of our current place sooner, so I’m wondering if it’s worth asking the sellers if we can move in early. Has anyone done this before? Thanks for any advice!
It can’t hurt to ask, but I personally wouldn’t let a buyer move in early. They usually encourage you to wait to give notice until you’ve signed everything. It might be better to pack up and stay with friends or get a hotel for a week. Plus, you can deep clean the new place before moving in!
Agree it isn’t likely to be granted, but you might get surprised! Just ask, but be prepared for a ‘no’ and have a backup plan.
If they let you move in and it doesn’t close, you’d be a tenant, and that could require eviction. I wouldn’t agree to that.
It’s possible, but many sellers won’t go for it. If something goes wrong, it’s tough to get a buyer out. You could amend the contract to pay them, but it’s easier to store your stuff and find a hotel or Airbnb.
Why not ask your buyer to move in later? It could work out for everyone.
I wouldn’t ask the seller for this. It’s not a reasonable request and could annoy them and the realtors. Renting an Airbnb might be a better option.
We took pre-possession of our home a week or two before closing. Just ask, but be ready for rental and damage fees if they agree. Have a backup plan if they say no.
It would be unusual for good reasons. Store your stuff and find a hotel or Airbnb for the week.
You can ask, but I wouldn’t allow it. The seller has a lot to lose by letting someone move in before the sale is finalized.
