NAR getting sued again lol - this time by Michigan Realtors

A group realtors in Michigan are suing the NAR for anti-trust policies. They’re stating the NAR forces them to join the trade group or be barred from access to the MLS.

Honestly speaking, the NAR’s days are numbered. They just got sued by a class action suit by consumers. Rumor is there is a second lawsuit in the works, DOJ will be regulating as well, and now this realtor lawsuit.

Good! This trade-group has ripped off and scammed Americans for decades now. They collude, set-up an illegal cartel, and spent millions of dollars in lobbying (bribes) to politicians for anti-consumer friendly laws

Good. As an agent, I hate NAR. I am basically forced to fork out thousands of dollars and I get nothing of value in return. “But we lobby for you!”……and still lost the major lawsuit. NAR is a racket. They scam consumers and professionals and provide no value to anyone.

The lobby is really just for the shitty agents. The good ones don’t need it.

I could not agree more!!! I REALLY wanted to dump my NAR membership. I could care less about being called a “Realtor” - all of what they say about a “Realtor” being “better” is garbage. Doesn’t actually mean a dang thing, other than I paid more money LOL!

Nothing of value? They literally keep and prop up your illegal monopoly on what should be public information. “Nothing of value”??? They are the second largest donator to lobbyist groups. They are basically keeping you and your industry alive my friend :joy:

With modern technology, a small listing fee (daily/weekly/monthly rates) combined with ad space to RE attorneys seems like it should work. Just need to solve the bullshit listings problem, maybe have a “verified” tag for listings (extra cost). Could still hire an agent to manage showings and use an attorney for the actual transaction. It’s definitely going to change going forward though.

I wouldn’t be too excited about that. If NAR’s days are numbered, Realtor’s days aren’t much longer.

The majority of the work is done by the customers, the inspector, the lender, the appraiser, and the title company.

What do you think has been making sure realtors still have their very large piece of that pie? Maybe the NAR gatekeeping access to the MLS?

Unfortunately, as an independent contractor…health and retirement benefits are not offered to RE agents, outside of this “union”. I am an agent that is prided on service to the people that I serve. I have a client that I have been working with for 5 years, without a purchase. Gas, fees, time, but i still serve because I am helping. However, it costs for me to provide a service, sometimes never compensated. So there needs to be some level of protection to be able to provide service. I need medical and dental insurance, for my family. The fees to operate a Real Estate Business, are way too high, if you are not able to produce a closing. I feel like I really do not receive anything in return from Being a member. If you have a dispute, you need to pay anyway. You have to always pay to conduct business, I do not understand what they offer. would rather pay a small fee for access, then pay close to $1000 plus MLS fees for nothing, other than a platform
