Because I used medicinal marijuana, my apartment was evicted. I am in Florida.
I have been informed that, even with excellent credit, a sizable down payment, and a steady income, it will be nearly hard for me to purchase a first home and obtain a mortgage at this time because of the eviction.
Is it true that after being evicted, you can’t get a mortgage the same way you did before?

You can still get a mortgage even if you have a criminal record. Lenders are mainly concerned with your income, down payment, and credit score, not your past judgments or collections.

Yeah, man, I went through an eviction and had a bunch of serious legal troubles in my 20s. I was a Northerner who ended up getting a mortgage down in Florida.

If you do not have an outstanding judgment related to the eviction, it should not affect your chances of getting a mortgage. However, you could face some difficulty when trying to rent a new place.

Eviction only really comes into play when you haven’t paid your rent. Even then, not every landlord will require you to show proof of rent payments for the past two years.
