Potential buyer wants to meet us

We are in the US. We have an offer and it came in lower than we wanted by quite a bit. The buyers said they were not going to budge on their offer. They want the house very much and said they want to meet with us face-to-face so they could tell us in person how much our home means to them. We told them “no.”

I’ve purchased and sold several homes and I’ve never had such a request. I have met buyers after closing to show them how various things on our property worked.

Has anyone else been in a situation where a buyer wanted to meet you to try to convince you to sell your home to them?

Sounds like they think they’ll be able to convince you to accept the lower price. Personally I would not meet with them and I’d decline their offer

Yeah, it’s just going to be a huge manipulation tactic and/or sob story. Maybe she’s pregnant. Nothing good will come of this meeting for OP.

My daughter’s town house buyer sent a heartfelt letter on how this would be their forever home to raise their family, please consider our offer it’s as much as we can afford. It was not terrible, but an underbid. She sold it to them, they almost immediately flipped it.

I had someone send in an offer $20k under asking, followed by a heartfelt letter stating all the hardships they’ve ever faced in life. You have to look at real estate is a business transaction and nothing more. Don’t entertain a meeting. I did not take her offer…

Same thing happened to me except it came from a couple. I felt like telling them I’m a widow paying for two kids in college (at the time) so my sob story wins. Instead I ignored it and accepted a better offer.

I hate those letters. Stupid and manipulative. I’m not interested in a buyer’s life story or in meeting the buyer. This is a business transaction. Just make a good solid offer and I’ll consider it.

When I sold my house 2 houses ago, everybody seemed to write a letter as it was a seller’s market. Well if there was a tie in price and ability to go through with the purchase, I figured I would go with the person with the best story. However in the end, I just chose the highest bidder.

Everyone thinks they’re incredibly persuasive face-to-face. Most of those people are wrong.

They might beg.

They might bully.

They WILL waste your time.
