I’m buying a new build and closing tomorrow. The builder didn’t let us choose any dates for anything, and we were told when the inspection and last walkthrough would happen. Our inspection found literal holes in the roof and some bricks missing, so you can see the insulation. They knew about it for 9 days but haven’t fixed it. We went over and they patched some visible areas but missed the hidden spots. We sent pics to the construction manager and they assured us it would be fixed. Now, I get a text saying we need to wire the closing costs today or we might not get the keys tomorrow. Is it normal to pay without seeing those issues fixed? Am I just being pushed to pay up?
Honestly, I think you’re right to hold off on the payment. They should fix the roof before you pay.

Totally agree! I’d never pay until I see it all fixed. That’s a big deal.
This seems sketchy. You have every right to ensure the repairs are done before closing.

What does closing mean exactly? Is it like finalizing the sale?

Yeah, it’s when you officially buy the house and get the keys.
If they’re rushing you, that’s a red flag. Make sure everything’s fixed first.
I had a similar issue once. I held off on payment until my concerns were addressed.
You should definitely stand your ground. They can’t expect you to pay for an unfinished job.
