Two Apartment Units with the Same Number... What Now?

So, we’ve been having issues with our mail lately, but it really ramped up in the last couple of months. Turns out, there’s another unit in our building with the same number! We’re in the same structure but on opposite sides, and it’s causing all sorts of confusion. I thought it was just a mix-up until I checked the county’s GIS data and saw that one side is supposed to have all even numbers and the other odd. It’s not just annoying; it’s a safety issue too. I’m starting to wonder if I need a lawyer to help sort this out. Should I reach out to the landlord first? Now I’m worried about utility bills and everything else getting messed up.

How are there two buildings with the same street address? Shouldn’t a building across the street have an odd/even number setup?

It’s the same structure but split into two sides. I checked the county’s GIS data and it shows it should be all even numbers on one side and all odd on the other. I’m on the odd side, but the other half doesn’t follow that rule, lol.

@Miller
Wow, that sounds like a mess. Have you talked to your landlord yet about it?

Not yet, but I definitely plan to. I just want to make sure I have all the facts first.

You might want to consult with a lawyer if the landlord doesn’t take this seriously. This is a huge issue, especially with safety and mail delivery.

Yeah, I’m thinking that might be the next step if I can’t get it resolved quickly.

This sounds frustrating. Have you noticed any other problems, like issues with utilities from the mix-up?

Not yet, but I’m worried about it, especially with bills getting mixed up.

@Miller
Definitely keep an eye on that! It might be worth mentioning to your landlord too.
