Was I scammed with this security system for my new condo...?

I just bought a condo in a secure building and got a call from an ADT salesperson saying my realtor had gifted me a security system. Exhausted and feeling like an idiot, I agreed and ended up signing up for a 36-month deal at $50 a month. The installer came out, and we talked—turns out my building already has all the security features! I feel like my realtor would know that. Is it common for ADT to get my realtor’s name and call me like this, similar to those warranty offers from mortgage lenders?

That sounds sketchy! I wouldn’t trust any unsolicited calls about gifts, especially if it involves a contract.

Definitely sounds like a scam. You should talk to your realtor and see what they say about it.

Yeah, I’d get their input. If your building is secure, you shouldn’t need that system anyway.

I’ve heard of similar situations happening. They might just use your realtor’s name to seem legit.

Make sure you read the fine print on that contract! You might be able to cancel if you act fast.

Contact ADT and explain the situation. They might let you out of the contract if you explain that your building is secure.
