Hey, besides Zillow, where else can I search for real estate listings? I usually use Zillow, and I know about Trulia and Redfin, but they seem to have the same listings. Are there any other platforms where I can find different properties? I’m looking for apartment buildings as well as single-family homes, and I’m interested in FSBOs, foreclosures, and short sales too.

Most properties listed on the MLS will appear on all those websites. MLS listings aren’t free, and FSBO (for sale by owner) listings sometimes skip them. Some sites offer paid private listings that don’t use the MLS. Overall, about 99% of properties will be on all these sites, with about 1% varying between them.
These platforms primarily earn revenue from advertisements for realtors, lenders, and others. They also explore using their data to venture into iBuyer initiatives.

I’m really keen on finding more FSBO listings, and I’m also interested in foreclosures.

FSBO listings can be unpredictable. Sellers advertise them wherever they choose, sometimes not at all. They might appear on Zillow, or you might find them through a Facebook post or a yard sign. Bank-owned properties (foreclosures) are typically listed like any other homes you’re browsing. If they’re listed by an agent who put them on the MLS, they’ll show up on the websites you’re already using. If you’re feeling frustrated by the lack of listings, you’re not alone in that sentiment.

I think we’ll see more foreclosures as interest rates go up and prices come down.
