Why is my real estate agent asking for 3% after going to OpenDoor?

Basically, we met a real estate agent who mentioned pre-market buyers, which we were interested in. She sent our info to OpenDoor, and they came out, did their tour, and made a pretty good offer. The thing is, OpenDoor wants 5%, and the real estate agent still wants her 3% for doing basically nothing. What’s the play here?

That sounds frustrating. It seems double-dipping a bit if you’re already paying OpenDoor. Have you talked to her about it?

Not yet, but I feel like I should. IDK if it’s standard practice or what.

Yeah, it does seem a bit much. I thought agents usually negotiate their fees based on the situation. Maybe ask her what she did to earn that 3%.

Good idea. I’ll definitely ask her what she’s done to justify that fee.

In my experience, agents can be a bit pushy with their fees. You could negotiate or even consider if you really need her services at this point.

That’s a good point. I’m wondering how necessary her involvement is if OpenDoor is already making an offer.

It’s kind of typical for agents to want their commission no matter what, but you should feel comfortable pushing back. It’s your money, after all.

True, I shouldn’t feel pressured. I’ll make sure to voice my concerns.

Honestly, if OpenDoor is already providing a solid offer, you might want to just go with them and cut out the middleman. Just a thought.

That’s definitely something to consider. I’ll weigh my options carefully.
