Furnished homes... what do buyers actually want?

Hey everyone! My mom is planning to sell our family home next year, and we’re trying to figure out what to do with the furniture. There’s a ton of it, and honestly, I think buyers will want new stuff, not the old, damaged things. For example, my mom has a couch that her cats have totally ruined… like, it needs to be tossed, right? I’m just looking for some clarification on what kind of furnishings buyers might be okay with. Thanks for any help!

You can try to sell the furniture to the buyer as part of the deal, but typically, homes are sold empty. Just make sure it’s clean.

I had a similar situation. The sellers of my current house told me I could make an offer on their furniture, and it was in great shape. But I wouldn’t take anything worn or with stains.

That’s awesome! Getting a good deal on nice furniture is rare these days.

Custom furniture might be worth considering, but if it’s damaged, just toss it. No one wants a smelly house!

Definitely toss anything with signs of damage. Trust me, the smell will scare buyers away!

Agreed! I’ve walked away from houses that smelled like pets. It’s such a huge red flag.

Just get rid of everything. Even good condition furniture can’t be part of the mortgage, so sell it online or donate it. Save yourself the hassle!

Great idea! I’ve seen people sell furniture for decent prices online. Less clutter and more cash!
