My old housemate N left in March, and she found me a new housemate to replace her. We’ll call her G. She’s the classic housemate from hell. I can’t keep living with her as it’s affecting my mental health, but I don’t want to move since I live next to my sister- and brother-in-law. I own all the furniture, pay rent on time, and all utilities are in my name. G has been behind on rent and utilities. I’ve called the real estate, but nothing’s getting done. They said I could get a new housemate and mentioned we weren’t currently on a lease. How do I handle this? I’m afraid of a big blow-up, as she’s aggressive and unstable. My idea is to tell her: ‘Hey, you haven’t been paying rent on time and struggling with utilities. You aren’t on a lease, so to save your rental record, you should start looking for another place before getting an eviction notice.’ I feel trapped and need advice.
Tell her you are cancelling the lease and moving out at the end of the month. Buy a couple of moving boxes to make it look real. She’ll think she has to move out and at the end of the month she’ll be gone, and you won’t have moved.
Oh man, does she get mail at this address? If you’re in a squatters rights state, it might be tough. Maybe call the police to throw her out? Could cause a scene, but it’s the quickest way.

You don’t call the police to throw her out. They don’t do that. You need an eviction process which varies by region. If she’s been living there for a while, she can’t be removed without eviction.

Right, OP needs to check local rules since they differ widely.
Get your rental agency to evict her and stop covering her rent. If she doesn’t receive mail there and isn’t on the lease, you might be able to pack up her stuff, put it outside, and change the locks. Not sure if that’s legal where you are, talk to your leasing agent.
