Hey everyone, I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. My wife and I recently put an offer on a home that is income restricted and located in a HUD zone. We were the first to submit our offer and included a pre-approval letter from the bank. However, the seller declined our offer and accepted another offer from another party because they offered to purchase their solar panels for $17k. Is it legal for the seller to do this?
Yeah, it’s legal for a seller to take a better offer. Wouldn’t you do the same if you were in their position?
A seller has the right to accept whatever offer they prefer. It seems like a no-brainer for them. Good luck with your search.
So just to clarify, did you guys match the other offer for the solar panels? That’s a bit surprising they still went with the other offer.
Honestly, it sounds like the seller just preferred the other offer for reasons we might not fully understand. Sometimes the reasons for rejecting offers aren’t fully transparent.
What have you learned about HUD income restricted zones that makes you think the seller’s actions are illegal? Just curious what you mean by that.
