Paying a lawyer instead of a realtor... is that a thing?

I’m looking to buy a home in the short to medium term and honestly, I’m not a fan of dealing with salespeople. I’d much rather skip the realtor. I have a family friend who’s a lawyer that I trust, so I was wondering if I could just handle the deal myself and pay him for his help with the contract. Has anyone tried doing this? I feel like I’d save a lot by not paying a realtor’s cut. Thanks!

Totally possible, Many people go this route. Just make sure your lawyer knows real estate stuff.

You might miss out on some insights a realtor could provide, though. They know the market well.

I did this. My friend’s a lawyer and it worked out fine. Just be prepared for all the paperwork.

Make sure your lawyer has experience with real estate transactions. It can get tricky.

Don’t forget about inspections and appraisals. You’ll need those too.
