I had my first-time buyer experience 2 years ago and now I’m considering selling my home. I’m curious about how the upcoming presidential election could impact my selling opportunities. Has anyone had experience selling during a past election? Would love any insights!
I only think about this because I’m literally selling a condo in DC, because the new administration could impact local neighborhoods. If you don’t live in the nation’s capital, I don’t think it matters as much as you’re fearing.
I appreciate your input. Thank you!
That’s what I was going to say. Are you selling in DC? Then yes, the election has big, real-time impacts. Otherwise, not so much.
Markets are always weird around election time. By the time you get your house listed, the election will be long gone.
Regardless of the upcoming election, it’s better to wait until at least Feb - March for real estate stuff.

I assume it’s something I could Google this on but do you mind sharing a couple of points as to why?
@Sunny
Most people don’t want to move around the holidays.
You can do a search at the search bar on this topic. It’s been posted frequently if you want to read other thoughts on it. I can’t know why others are down voting, but I assume that it is annoying and upsetting to them one way or the other.
Everyone THINKS the presidential election will have a HUGE impact. It is more local. Are there jobs? Curb appeal? General market trends specific to the area?
Markets don’t care about elections as much as people think. Buyers still need homes, sellers still need to sell. If you’re ready to sell and the numbers work for you, don’t try to time the market based on politics.
@Logan
I disagree, kinda. The market may not care about the election, but there are a lot of people, like OP, who are scared that ‘something’ is going to happen.

People need to stop thinking like this. So many businesses are suffering right now because people are not doing things ‘Because of the election’.
@TwilightTide
I understand what you’re trying to convey but your tone really sucks. I’m just asking for experienced people insights on selling during presidential elections.
It’s a house in a huge sellers market. Don’t overthink it.
